Day 10 (June 17): Santorini, Greece

Of all the Greek islands, I was most looking forward to visiting Santorini. Around 1400 BC, a volcano erupted and Santorini island was born. The ship literally pulls into the caldera of the island and the cliffs jut out of the ocean and soar thousands of feet straight up into the air. The magnitude of the cliffs was put into perspective by a massive ship that looked tiny against the backdrop of the majestic cliffs. Our destination was tiny towns that line the top of the cliffs. We bypassed the donkey taxis that took you to the top and whizzed up to Fira town on the funicular instead. At the top, we stopped for lunch at a cafe that had a balcony that hung over the cliffs. The view was amazing and I barely noticed when I got stung by a bee. Kory quickly dispatched the bee and he will never sting again. After lunch, we rented a smart car and drove to the little town of Oia where we did some window shopping and witnessed a group of horses descending a steep set of staircase that was embedded into the cliff. Highly entertaining. Once again, we exhausted ourselves by touring around the island and headed back to the ship looking forward to dinner. SeaDream served a delicious 8 course tasting menu.
