Day 14 (June 21st): Rome, Italy

We departed from Athens in the morning and flew to Rome on Air Italia. Not having traveled on Air Italia before we were nervous that everything would not work out but it went very smoothly. We arrived to much cooler temps and a little rain and made it to our hotel which was literally a stone’s throw from the Pantheon. We took a stroll around and visited the Pantheon which was spectacular not only in sheer size but in architectural and artistic beauty. We also made our way to the Coliseum being awed by spectacular statues and architecture at every turn. The Coliseum was quite amazing, unfortunately we missed seeing the inside by about 15 minutes but got a great sunset view of the exterior. We walked back to the hotel, stopped at a cafe for a glass of wine and headed to dinner. We had dinner at a bustling Roman bistro savoring delicious pastas, caprese salad and a nice bottle of vino. The cherry tomatoes on the Caprese salad were the best we’d ever had.  Tammy loved them!  And the mozzarella was extremely fresh and delicious.  It was a great first day in Italy!
