Day 20 (June 27): Florence, Italy

Today was about statues and paintings. We toured the Uffizi Gallery and, with the help of an audio guide that Kory downloaded onto our iPods, we enjoyed the famous paintings of Botticelli, Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci. We also checked out Michelangelo’s David and Prisoners in the Accademia Gallery. Seeing these masterpieces — along with all of the other great art that we have seen on our trip — has greatly increased my interest and appreciation for art. Later, we watched the sun setting over Florence from a rooftop. What I remember most about Florence, from my trip here years ago with Kathy, is the city’s copper color. To me Florence is that rusty red color and I loved seeing it in all of its glory as the sun made it sparkle.
