Day 21 (June 28): Venice, Italy

We said goodbye to Florence this morning and took the Eurostar to Venice. I loved Venice when I was here about 13 years ago with Kathy and am very much looking forward to this part of the trip. We checked into Hotel Al Codega — a very cute and nice hotel that is tucked between Piazza San Marco and the Rialto Bridge. We were very pleased to see that a fly-rod was waiting for us at the hotel. Karl sent one to Venice after we left Kory’s rod on the train.

As it turned out, I had inadvertently booked a room with two twin beds. When we saw the two beds and asked if the hotel would push them together, they very kindly upgraded us to a suite. Very nice and roomy! After a siesta, we wandered around the narrow streets of Venice. We were constantly lost! We had no complaints. After only my first day in Venice, I can say that my memory of it holds true. It is forever charming, romantic and exciting.
