Day 22 (June 29): Venice, Italy

We started the day at Piazza San Marco where we purchased tickets to the museums and the Doge’s Palace. We visited the Correr museum today. There were lots of portraits of the Doges in their hats. We laughed during lunch when we saw a picture of a cat dressed as the Doge.

Later, we got all dressed up and went to La Fenice opera house to see the Turn of the Screw by Henry James. We sat in a box overlooking the orchestra and the stage. The theatre is very ornate and beautiful and it was so fun to be on a date there with the love of my life. The opera was in English with Italian subtitles but we still had a hard time making out the words. I had read the book in anticipation of seeing the opera so I was able to follow the plot and explained it to Kory.

After the show, we had dinner outside and then went to Piazza San Marco and sat out on the square for a post-dinner cocktail while listening to a jazz band play. It was a very pleasant day.
