Day 28 (July 5): Mljet, Croatia

We took the afternoon catamaran, called the Nona Ana, from Korcula to Mljet. Mljet is a small island that is very sparsely populated. Half of the island is a Croatian national park. We stayed at the only hotel on the island, Hotel Odisej, in a little village called Pomena. We explored the island around our hotel a little and then had dinner at a quiet restaurant out on the pier. All the restaurants have outdoor tables and are clearly designed for boats and small yachts to pull right up to the marina. Most of the patrons of the restaurants had done just that and were eating feet from their ships. I would like to do that someday. That is, to rent a boat or small yacht that Kory and I could comfortably sleep in and just sail around the Adriatic or some other exotic location trying the local food. Each restaurant had a concrete tank built into the pier where the daily catch was held until someone chose it for dinner. Large fish and lobsters filled the tanks. It was quite a sight.
