Day 35 (July 12): Kotor, Montenegro

I finally got my luggage back today!  The baggage delivery at Split called to say that they had it in custody.  They could only bring it to the boarder between Croatia and Montenegro and we hired someone to drive to the border and pick it up for us.  We then drove into Herceg Novi, picked up my bag and dropped off the rental car.  We then took a taxi back to the hotel where we spent the last few hours of the day relaxing out on our hotel’s pier.  We had a nice dinner at Starri Malini which is one of Montenegro’s top restaurants.  It is a gorgeous restaurant with impeccable service – by far the best we’d had in Kotor.  The waiters spoke flawless English and actually recommended everything that we should have.  They suggested black risotto and a nice salad to share.  The waiters brought out a platter of fish and explained how each would be cooked to maximize its flavor, etc.  Kory selected a red snapper that we would share and the waiter explained that this particular fish would be cooked in tinfoil with vegetables.  It was delicious and we enjoyed the entire experience.  Kory really liked their version of Rakje – a local plum-flavored liquor.  Numerous people told us that Starri Malini was the most expensive restaurant in Montenegro.  We were pleasantly surprised that our bill was only $107.  That included two bottles of wine, three glasses of Rakje, bottled water, two appetizers, fish for two and desert.  I guess we are just used to New York prices, because we considered that a bargain.
