Paris 2023 Day 3: 3/30/23

We slept in on this day since we had travelled the day before and walked a lot. We had a nice light breakfast at a bakery across the street from our hotel. After that, Tammy and Anna went back to the hotel to get ready while I took a long walk. I found a cool old elevated railway converted to a park and strolled along until it reached the terminus at the striking July tower Place de Bastille monument. I found some interesting small stores, lithograph shops and other artistic stuff. The arches under the elevated railway held shops, restaurant and artist spaces. There is also a canal off of the Seine that has boats docked along there most of which looked like people were living in them.

Once the girls were ready, we headed to the Arc D Triumph where Tammy had tickets for us to go to the top. We wandered around the Champs Elysees and had lunch at an interesting cafe that hired people with disabilities. I wanted to try a Croque Monsieur which was very good but a bit rich. We went to the top of the Arch and took in the views of the city and headed on to the Eiffel Tower.

Tammy had purchased tickets that included a trip to the top plus a cruise on the Seine, so we did the cruise first and enjoyed the views from the river. After that we headed to meet the guide and then on to the tower. The wait to get into the elevator took close to an hour, but once on it was pretty smooth trip to the top. The first elevator moves slower at an angle along one of the buttresses and is quite crowded, then the second elevator which is smaller goes straight up. The height gained quickly and there are windows all around showing you how high you really are. Both Tammy and Anna started to get anxious and I felt a bit too as we gained serious elevation. At the top, both Tammy and Anna said it was too much and wanted to head down. I took in the view and did a bit of filming with the GoPro and then headed back down with them. It was seriously intense up there and I didn’t realize how truly high you are until up there. Incredible views from the iconic structure.

We got an Uber for the ride home as it was getting late and then had sushi at an ok spot in the neighborhood, nothing great and then off to bed.
